Results of the CARE Chronic Constipation Needs Assessment
Commentary and content provided by the CARE Gastroenterology Faculty
A needs assessment questionnaire was recently conducted that focused on chronic constipation. It focused on management approaches and treatment considerations. The objective was to gain more insight and a better understanding of what therapy options are being used for the various types of chronic constipation.
This needs assessment questionnaire was developed by Dr. Louis Liu (University of Toronto) and was sent to Canadian gastroenterologists (n=350). We achieved a response rate of 16% (n=55), suggesting interest in the topic and a willingness to participate in a national dialogue.
What follows is a recap of the responder feedback, trends, therapeutic issues and treatment strategies discovered from this needs assessment, along with additional insight from the CARE Gastroenterology Faculty members Dr. Louis Liu and Dr. Christopher Andrews (University of Calgary).
