CARE Perspectives: ASCO 2017

At ASCO 2017 (Chicago, Illinois – June 2-6), CARE Faculty members met to discuss the news and developments in the field of oncology.

Within this report, key abstracts and select plenary sessions have been summarized and augmented with perspectives from the CARE Faculty framed from a Canadian perspective.

CARE Perspectives: ASCO 2016

Members of the CARE Oncology Faculty spoke at the 11th annual CARE at ASCO 2016 meeting in order to educate Canadian trainees and residents as well as frame each of the developments from a Canadian perspective. Presentations featured cutting edge content with discussion on relevant cases and treatment strategies. CARE at ASCO was attended by over 50 Canadian oncology professionals.

Members of the CARE (Community, Academic, Research, Education) Oncology Faculty recently met at the CCOCO 2015 conference (Banff, AB – June 19-21) and attended ASCO 2015 (Chicago, IL - May 29 – June 2). Presentations were made on various topics in oncology at the CCOCO 2015 conference, as well as presentations and abstracts at ASCO. The annual CORE Resident and Trainee Education meeting at ASCO was held on May 29th where CARE Faculty members presented on a number of key topics in oncology.

Members of the CARE Oncology Faculty recently attended the ASCO GICS (American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium) 2015 conference held in San Francisco, CA on January 15-17, 2015. “CARE Perspectives” shares key news and developments in GI cancers covered at this conference, framed from a Canadian perspective.

Additionally, results from a recent CARE needs assessment focused on hepatocellular carcinoma are shared within the last section of the report. Dr. Winson Cheung was involved in the development of this initiative, and Dr. Hemant Shah provided a hepatologist’s perspective on the issues surrounding identification, referrals, and management of HCC.

Members of the CARE Oncology Faculty recently attended a CARE working group meeting during the annual ESMO 2014 conference held in Madrid, Spain from September 26-30 2014. In attendance were a number of CARE Faculty Members representing a variety of tumour sites. The CARE Oncology Faculty recently met at ECC (European Cancer Congress) 2013 in Amsterdam, Netherlands (September 27–October 1, 2013). The congress covered a wide range of oncology disciplines; this report focuses on lung cancer, breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancer. 

The CARE Faculty also attended IASLC (International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer) 2013 in Sydney, Australia (October 27–30, 2013). There was a large Canadian presence at the conference this year with the presentation of many posters led by leading Canadian opinion leaders. The lung cancer section of the report includes an update from this conference, including an overview of two Canadian poster presentations made by CARE Faculty members
